Carly Rae Jepsen Gets Support From Her Girls In ‘Boy Problems’ Video

Boy Problems M3

Carly Rae Jepsen released one of 2015’s best albums with EMOTION and now she’s released what is sure to be one of 2016’s biggest bops.

Boy Problems is Jepsen’s fourth single from her 2015 disc and compliments the radio-friendly lead single I Really Like You. Written with Jepsen, Greg Kurstin (Adele, Tegan and Sara), Tavish Crowe (Call Me Maybe) and Sia, Boy Problems is what the 90s board game Girl Talk would sound like if it were a song.

The video features slumber party scenes, an office setting, a girl taking selfies in a coffin, and Jepsen crying alone with her tiara before everyone meets up in a brightly lit dance party. With a distinct ’70s and ’80s vibe, Boy Problems is the track for anyone who has ever suffered a heartbreak or had to listen to a friend long past the end of your sympathy rope.

The new video was directed by fellow Canadian Petra Collins and features actress and Rookie Magazine founder Tavi Gevinson.

“Out of the blue, Petra reached out to ask if she could make a video for her favorite track from the album: ‘Boy Problems’”, Jepsen tells Rookie Mag. “What she didn’t know is that I had been following her online, via Instagram and other outlets, for a while and had become a HUGE fan of her photographs and artwork.”

Jepsen wanted a video that featured young women and knew that Petra had the right vision, saying “I think she has a very gifted eye for a refreshing look at youth and beauty, and the way she plays with color always stands out to me. So the answer was an immediate YES! We met that first day in New York and were giddy with creating something new together and I am so pleased for how the dark and glittery scenes we imagined turned out.”

Check out Boy Problems below and be prepared to feel inspired to throw a slumber party.
