This season’s cast of Dancing With The Stars has been announced and there are definitely some trends in the casting. Athletes are heavily represented, with Olympians Charlie White, Meryl Davis, Amy Purdy, former NHL player Sean Avery and long distance swimmer Diana Nyad making up almost half of the couples.
Former child stars Candace Cameron Bure (Full House) and Danica McKellar (Winnie Cooper FTW) have signed on, as well as actors Billy Dee Williams and Drew Carey. Reality star Nene Leakes will be strapping on her tap shoes alongside Big Time Rush’s James Maslow.
Lastly, our beloved Cody Simpson will be joining dancing partner Witney Carson, already making history as the youngest couple to perform together on the competition (Simpson is 17 and Carson is 20). We can’t help but feel mixed emotions towards Simpson’s upcoming appearance on DWTS. Sure, it’ll be great to get more exposure for the Aussie teen, but does this mean his career has jumped the shark? Dancing With The Stars is known for getting celebs on their way out of the limelight, and with a bit of a stall in Simpson’s career as of late, this will either propel him to the mainstream or keep him on the back burner.
Check out the full list of couples below and watch a sneak peek of some of the moves Simpson will be busting when the new season of DWTS premieres Monday, March 17 at 8E/5P on M3.
