What started off as a misunderstanding of the cocktail Sex on the Beach has turned into one of the biggest songs of the fall. Joe Jonas and his newly formed supergroup DNCE have created a high energy earworm with their breakout track Cake By The Ocean, a song as fun to sing as it would be to act out (you had us at ‘cake’).
After releasing their party-friendly lyric video, DNCE have now dropped the official video for Cake By The Ocean, which features an all-out cake war.
Starring comedian The Fat Jew and a group of models of all shapes in sizes (well done, DNCE), the First International Cake Fight Championship combines sugar and swimsuits for an epic food fight. Your move, Food Network.
The video kicks off with two newscasters introducing the event, complete with a news bar scrolling along the bottom. If we’re to believe everything we read, Jonas’ famous girlfriend, model Gigi Hadid, is one of the video’s directors. Later in the video we see a sign for GUESS clothing, another nod to Hadid, who has modeled for the company since childhood.
The news bar also includes the Instagram handles of all the models featured in the video, just in case you’re on the lookout for some very attractive new accounts to follow.
Cake By The Ocean also heavily features product placements for the dating app Bumble, which promotes women taking the swiping lead.
DNCE’s debut EP SWAAY is set to be released next week on October 23.
