Meghan Trainor Says Yes To Dancing In 90s Inspired Video For ‘No’

Meghan Trainor may have been all about that bass in 2014, but the singer/songwriter is now back with her latest anthem and instead of empowering women to embrace their size, she’s now urging her ladies to embrace their voice.

No, Trainor’s lead single off her upcoming sophomore album Thank You, reinforces women saying ‘no’ when they aren’t interested in being approached. Singing “Thank you in advance, I don’t wanna dance (nope!) / I don’t need your hands all over me / If I want a man, then I’mma get a man / But it’s never my priority”, Trainor’s catchy pop track reminds women that ‘No’ is the only response and explanation they need when they’re not interested in a man.

After dropping the new single at the beginning of the month on March 4, Trainor has now released a 80s/90s/2000s-inspired music video for No, complete with a Rhythm Nation-esque warehouse as the setting. In the new video released today, Meghan is flanked by an all-female dance group as she shows off her moves through choreographed arrangements, mixed in with some classic pop star writhing on the ground.

Trainor reveals her new darker locks in the video and stuns in a Missy Elliott-inspired silver trench coat and fishnet stockings that would have Britney Spears shouting ‘yas kween’.

If the video is giving you flashbacks to the early 2000s, it’s likely thanks to No’s choreographer and director Fatima Robinson, who was the mastermind behind Aalyiah’s Rock The Boat, Mary J. Blige’s Family Affair, The Black Eyed Peas’ My Humps and many more videos.

The new video is equal parts Katy Perry’s I Kissed A Girl, Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation, and Destiny’s Child’s Independent Women. So obviously we are loving it.

Meghan Trainor’s album Thank You is set to be released on May 13.
